The Sabbath, which begins Friday at sundown and ends Saturday at sundown, is a day of refreshment for body and spirit. It is a time celebrated with fresh enthusiasm each week.
First, there is the lighting of at least two candles,
to represent the first two words of the command-ments concerning the Sabbath; “Remember” and “Observe.”
Once the candles are lit, a blessing is recited over a full cup of wine, symbolizing overflowing joy and bounty.
